VICER F.A.Q.

Q: What is Vicer?

A: Vicer is a new iPhone application that makes it really easy for you to track spending on your little purchases--coffee, tea, candy bars--and save money in the long run by cutting back on these purchases. You can even visualize how much changing your habits can contribute toward retirement!

Q: How does Vicer work?

A: Using Vicer is really simple. When you first launch Vicer, it will ask you your age so it can make some calculations about retirement savings, and then Vicer will ask you to name one of your “Vices,” how much of that vice you consume in an average week, and how much you’d like to cut back. From that point on, Vicer takes care of the rest.

Q: What does the “days remaining” on the bottom of the home screen mean?

A: Vicer counts your vice consumption by month, so the “days remaining” simply shows how many days are left in the month. For example, if you entered that you’d like to consume 4 coffees a week, Vicer will make your target 16 coffees a month (4 weeks in a month!).

Q: What do you do with your revenues from Vicer?

A: Any proceeds we make from Vicer goes toward funding research in Behavioral Economics at Duke University’s Center of Behavioral Economics.
